Children's Services:

HCPL has the very best collections of library materials in the county for children of all ages. In the children's department you can find more than just age appropriate books; there are puzzles, board games, audio and video materials, computer games and more.

The library offers a variety of programs and events to not only entertain but to support the educational goals of all children and their families. The Summer Reading Programs, after-school activities, weekly movies, Coffeehouses and other special events are all good opportunities for younger patrons to come to and use the library. Please check the calendar for upcoming and ongoing programs.

Childcare Center Outreach

The Book Express provides services to all interested child care centers in the county. Participating centers receive monthly visits, complete with a story time for the children and an opportunity for the teachers to check out materials for their classes. Currently 27 child care centers are participating in this program. In addition to this service, the children’s department via Outreach services offers a Bilingual Story time monthly and collections, both print and electronic, in Spanish to attract and serve our Latino community.

Community Outreach: Haywood County Schools and Homeschoolers

By providing materials for the Accelerated Reader program, offering access and training for the Learn the Test resource from NC LIVE, and by seeking new educational resources, the library assists the school system in providing the best and most current resources for our student populations. The library welcomes homeschool students and parents to the library and all of our resources.
