The primary responsibility of the Assessor’s Office is to list and appraise all taxable real, business personal, and personal property each year. It is our goal to provide fair and equitable assessments for all property classes, real and personal while providing quality customer service to all citizens.
Taxes generated through the assessment of real estate, business personal property, personal property, and motor vehicles make up a large portion of the general fund for Haywood County.
The tax rate for each fiscal year is usually set in May or June by the Haywood County Board of Commissioners. Tax bills are usually mailed in August or September each year.
What The Haywood County Assessor's Office Does
- Appraises real estate, mobile homes, motor vehicles, boats, motors, jet skis, rental residential personal property, and business personal property for ad valorem property tax purposes
- Calculates and creates all real and personal property taxes for all taxing jurisdictions within Haywood County
- Receives and processes applications for tax exemptions, exclusions, and deferments
- Processes motor vehicle tax refunds/prorations
- Provides tax information to the public and legal professionals
What The Haywood County Assessor's Office Does Not Do
- Set property tax rates. Tax rates are set by the Board of County Commissioners each year.
