[ARCHIVED] Haywood County receives 'AA+' credit rating

Haywood County, NC – February 29, 2024 – S&P Global Ratings has announced its assignment of an 'AA+' issuer credit rating to Haywood County, North Carolina, alongside an 'AA' long-term rating for the county's series 2024 anticipated $23 million limited obligation bonds. This decision reflects S&P's confidence in Haywood County's robust and diversified economy, wise fiscal management practices, sustained positive operational performance, and the county's ability to effectively manage long-term liabilities. 

S&P Global Ratings is a credit rating agency that publishes financial research and analysis. They are considered the largest credit rating agency in the country. 

S&P credit analyst, Michael Parker, noted, "The rating reflects our view of the county's growing and diverse economy, wise management practices, long history of positive operating results, and manageable long-term liabilities that we expect will persist..." 

The 'AA+' issuer credit rating signifies a very strong capacity to meet financial commitments, while the 'AA' long-term rating assigned to the county's series 2024 limited obligation bonds denotes a high degree of certainty for timely repayment. 

Bryant Morehead, County Manager, commented, "We are pleased with S&P Global Ratings' recognition of Haywood County. This affirmation reinforces our commitment to maintaining a strong financial foundation while strategically investing in the future of our community."
