Overview

  • The Southwestern North Carolina Resource Conservation and Development (SWNCRCD) Council serves as the governing body for the Resource Conservation and Development Program in developing and carrying out a proactive plan for social, economic, and environmental betterment of communities. 
  • The purpose of this regional organization is to plan and promote the orderly conservation and development of certain resources in the area. These resources include, but are not necessarily limited to human, land, water, wildlife, forestry, recreation, and cultural resources.

Membership

  • The SWNCRCD Council is authorized by Congress.
  • Each county in the Southwestern NC Resource Conservation and Development area has three appointees on the council.
  • Vacancies in the three Haywood County appointee positions are not publicly posted. One is appointed by the Haywood County Commissioners based on job duties; one is appointed by the RCD council, and one by the Soil and Water Conservation District.
